Primed inside of hull, Rudder, Elevators 10/18/15

We sanded the inside of the hull and washed it to prepare for the 2 part epoxy primer that is the first step for the tuffcoat paint that we have chosen instead of carpet for the inside of the hull.  It is a rubberized, textured paint.  I’d read about one other Searey builder who had used it and liked it.  Since the plane will get water in it, we think it is good to not have carpet permanently attached to the floor.

We also trial fit the rudder and put corrosionx inside of the rudder.

The elevators had a part that was reversed and that was fixed also

We spent about 5.5 hours total time.

The CP-10 primer is a 2 part epoxy resin.  It provides everything but UV protection.  It looks like milk and is not very thick when you put it on but it dried to a clear hard finish. Each can contains a pint so you get a quart when you mix them.  We did not use the entire quart on the inner hull and we applied the paint generously. The hull weighed 84 lbs before paint and priming.

Next we’ll apply the tuffcoat texture paint.  Instructions say that we have to do that in less than 7 days after priming.  We estimate that the hull paint will add 8 lbs of weight if we do the whole hull.  We may leave the top foot in the back with the bare resin to save weight.

Next we apply the Tuff Coat paint.  We chose the dark gray color.
