Flap and Aileron – 1/17/2016

First we built the frise aileron and then attached it.  Next came the flaps.

The aileron is used as a template to tell how to attach the wing tip.
The gap should be 1/8 inch.

The Frise Ailerons use these standoff hinges.

We’re going to have to convert the flaps from 912 flaps to 914 flaps which will involve
cutting the leading edge and doing some other modifications.  The 914 flaps are shorter,
perhaps to give more propeller clearance?

Is that a photo bomber, a unabomber or a person turning right base like the wing should be doing?

Those leading edge seals will go on at some point.

Here’s a part we don’t have.

No room for cars in the garage today.  It was below zero in Wisconsin today but the garage is 57 degrees.

The flaps and ailerons only line up at zero degrees because the aileron hinges are further away
from the wing than the flap hinges – they swing on different arcs meeting at one point.

All compression struts on the flap are the same length although this photo angle
makes that hard to tell.

Questions to research and parts to order.
